Frae the Deacon:
The World’s a Mess - where is God?
The magnitude of the Corona virus Pandemic is unprecedented- millions of people around the world are affected with this ‘scourge’.
Many ask: ‘Where is God in this mess’?
It was only about 3 months ago when Christians celebrated Christmas and the birth of Christ - Emmanuel or “God is with us”.
And, as recorded by Luke (10:27), Jesus taught the disciples and us also: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind; and your neighbour as yourself”.
When we reach out to help a family member or friend get groceries, when we offer to make a meal for someone in need, when we ensure our neighbours are safe and secure in their home, when we contact others by text, e-mail or phone to say hello, to remind them they are respected and valued and loved, when we go out of our way to support others and help protect them from this virus (while protecting ourselves), we are sharing the love of God!
In doing so, we are acting with compassion and love we are clearly communicating that God is here!
May we each include our government, health-care, and church leaders as well as all those caring for others in the health-care world in our daily prayers. May each of us be little candles of hope for others in the very messy and sometimes dark world.
